SHADE is an organization of youth creating a community for teens by teens. This community is built around a temporary summer space at Donnelly Field. SHADE is a safe hangout spot for teens to come by, find friends, make new ones, and have a good time. SHADE is made possible through Cambridge’s Shade is Social Justice public art competition.

Project Brief
What does a truly inviting and engaging space look like, where people can make it their own?
How can we address the social inequalities of communities that are more or less affected by global warming?
The Shade is Social Justice grant aims to address the disproportionate heating of lower income areas and lack of access to public shade and cooling. Our project specifically aims to tackle the underrepresentation of teen youth in the city of Cambridge. Teens lack public spaces to build community outside of school, and summers can be even more isolating.
I was tasked with designing the brand of this team, and also designed the shade structure space once the scaffolding was up.
